Some of Perth’s most enviable homes will open their doors to the public this weekend as the annual Open House Perth event returns for 2024.

Perth is one of more than 200 cities around the world taking part in the series, which gives people the exclusive opportunity to explore destinations not normally accessible to the general public.

This year’s program features a total of 18 properties including residential, commercial, hospitality and office spaces.

OHP creative coordinator Marco Da Trindade said the popular free weekend event was all about celebrating our city’s built environment, whether it’s touring an architect-designed luxury home or getting reacquainted with a public space you may have passed many times without realising its design significance.

“Our ethos has always been to celebrate the best of architecture, design and the built environment in Perth and its surrounds with the community by giving everyone unprecedented, behind-the-scenes free access to some of Perth’s most interesting places and spaces, to meet the architects, builders, designers, clients, owners and creators and learn the stories behind the buildings,” he said.

The initiative was first launched in 2012 and since then it has hosted more than 460,000 visitors at more than 500 locations.

Mr Da Trindade said this year had already attracted almost 5000 bookings, with locations ranging from homes in Bedford and Fremantle to a gelato bar and a walking tour showcasing how architects are adapting heritage spaces.

He said his personal favourites include Penryn Avenue in City Beach by renowned West Australian architecture practice Klopper & Davis.

“We really like the light and space of Penryn Avenue by Klopper & Davis, the clean lines of the Floreat house by Robeson Architects and the elegant finish to the Alma alterations and additions by Dalecki Design,” he said.

“The Karijini House material palette is exquisite and creates an evocative ambience to this very cool house.

“Award-winning commercial work at Australia Place lobby by Cox Architecture is a great use of light and colour in your next favourite sophisticated meeting place in the city.

“Heritage buildings are also open with the Art Deco Church of Christ Scientist building at the top of the terrace, as well as Living Edge’s showroom in a refurbished warehouse in King Street.”

Open House Perth is on November 9 and 10.
