Isuzu recently updated its D-Max, so naturally Mazda is readying a refresh for its related BT-50.

The 2025 Mazda BT-50 has been teased ahead of its reveal on Friday, October 18 at 11:00am AEDT.

Mazda has released only a single teaser image, but it reveals new CX-5-inspired headlight internals and what appears to be an unchanged bonnet.

There’s also an absence of chrome, indicating this is either the SP version or that Mazda is ditching the shiny stuff.

Most versions of the current BT-50 feature chrome trim underlining the headlights and grille.

While we can’t see the finer details of the 2025 BT-50’s (likely revised) grille, it appears the badge has grown to an enormous size – rivalling the GWM Cannon Ute’s grille badge in terms of sheer scale.

We could see a revised front bumper, while if the updated D-Max is an accurate guide we should also expect to see new wheel designs, tail lights, and a revised tailgate.

Mazda hasn’t confirmed local launch timing but again, if the D-Max is a guide, we may expect to see the BT-50 in Australian showrooms around six months after its reveal.

The updated D-Max was revealed in Thailand in October 2023, and went on sale in Australia in May 2024.

In addition to exterior tweaks, the updated D-Max received an available 7.0-inch digital instrument cluster screen.

Its 8.0-inch and 9.0-inch infotainment touchscreens gained wireless Android Auto (in addition to the existing wireless Apple CarPlay), with new volume and tuning dials underneath.

Other changes included a new Rough Terrain Mode – an electronic off-road traction control aid – as well as a new-generation stereo camera for the driver assist systems and active rear cross-traffic assist.

Isuzu builds both its D-Max and the Mazda BT-50 in Thailand.

To the end of September, Isuzu has sold around twice as many D-Max utes as Mazda has BT-50s.

Mazda has sold 2384 BT-50 4x2s and 9230 BT-50 4x4s, while Isuzu has sold 5000 D-Max 4x2s and 18,349 D-Max 4x4s.
