Skating, Art, Music and Mental Health Festival returns to Margaret River Youth Precinct with exciting line-up

A much-loved South West youth event is set to return to Margaret River this month, with mental health awareness set to take centre stage. This year’s Skating, Art, Music and Mental Health Festival will take place at the Margaret River Youth Precinct on Saturday November 23, with attendees promised an afternoon of creativity and connection. Some of the activities include live performances by youth bands from the area, interactive art installations and the popular annual Soggy Bones Skate Competition which will take place between 6pm and 7pm. The Concrete Club will host screen printing workshops, young First Nations artist Mariah will conduct an interactive mural creation and Kaiman will hold mural design workshops in the Zone Room for those wanting to let their creativity flow. Shire of Augusta-Margaret River community development trainee Aloha Fritsch highlighted the mission behind the festival. “SAMM Fest is about creating a space where young people can connect, express themselves, and feel part of something bigger,” she said. “By encouraging creative expression through art, music, and skating, we celebrate the incredible diversity and energy our youth bring to the community.” Ms Fritsch said mental health awareness would be a key part of the event, with headspace Margaret River set to offer support and services. “SAMM Fest aims to break down barriers around mental health by creating an inclusive space where young people can feel safe and supported,” she said. “By blending these fun activities with vital resources, we’re making mental wellness a part of the conversation in our community.” Other activities include Margi Pride’s Posca pot painting and sporting activities like roller skating, basketball, and ping pong. The Lotterywest-supported event will run from 3pm to 7.30pm.
