Firefighters have put out a blaze on a truck that went up in flames on a major road in Perth’s east.

A semi-trailer carrying rubbish caught alight on the Collier Road exit off Tonkin Highway in Bayswater just after 2pm on Wednesday.

The Department of Fire and Emergency Services issued a HAZMAT warning saying the truck was carrying “unknown contents” and could cause dangerous smoke in the area.

They urged people in the area to remain inside and switch off air conditioners.

The truck was later moved to a waste management facility where firefighters extinguished the blaze about 6pm.

The cause of the blaze has not yet been determined.

No one has been injured.
