Boat with about 50 people capsizes off Mumbai coast

A boat carrying more than 50 people has capsized off the coast of India's financial capital of Mumbai, a statement from the local authority says.

A total of 21 people were rescued, of which one was declared dead, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation said in a statement.

Rescue and relief operations are ongoing, it added.

Local TV showed rescue workers in life jackets near the capsized vessel.

The boat, called Neelkamal, was heading towards the Elephanta caves, a popular tourist destination off the coast of Mumbai, when it capsized, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation said.
