Snap + Chat: Rising young footballer, animal cruelty case and lost pig in city big talking points of the week

Snap + Chat has been on hiatus recently, but we’re back with a round-up of community talking points. Over the past week or so, our readers have been keen to comment on the rise of local young gun Julia Teakle, who was named in the AFLW’s 22under22 squad; a farmer’s call to jail a pair of idiots who mowed down his calves; and a 110-year-old’s secret to a long life — a daily bush chook. A post to the Geraldton Noticeboard on Facebook showed a pig on Pages Beach. “Anybody missing a pig,” it was captioned. A flurry ensued of comments, speculation, jokes, memes and other photos of seemingly the same porker being spotted at different beaches, including Point Moore and Front Beach. So, amid all the fuss, we went to the council to ask what the latest was with the most famous hog in the Mid West — or, as one meme creator put it, “Babe: Pig in Geraldton”. They didn’t get back to us before our deadline. But like this mystery swine, we’ll keep our noses close to the ground for any updates.
