Stalwarts of a small South West town gathered last week to celebrate the festive season complete with bon-bons, a feast and plenty of Christmas cheer.

Brunswick’s Community Resource Centre hosted seniors last Wednesday for a community Christmas dinner at the Brunswick Bowling Club.

The event was co-funded by the Shire of Harvey and had CRC volunteers donate their time and food to the wider community.

Brunswick CRC manager Tina Wallis said it was the second time they had hosted the community lunch with their first in 2022.

Ms Wallis hopes the event can become a yearly tradition for Brunswick, particularly for those who can’t celebrate the festive season with family and friends.

“The idea is to bring everyone together for a community luncheon — especially those we think might be on their own at Christmas or may have been disconnected for the community for any reason,” she said.

“This is really an opportunity for the community to come together for Christmas.”

Brunswick Walking group member Elizabeth Bradshaw said the event was a wonderful experience.

“We’ve got good food and good company, what more could you want?” she said.

Community staple Lorraine Stone said the CRC team did a great job organising the event.

“The meal has been very nice,” she said.

“It’s great to catch up with those you don’t normally see.”

Before taking to the stage, Brunswick Singers member Margaret Carbone said she was thankful to the team of volunteers.

“This is my first Christmas fair of the season and it’s been very nice,” she said.

“I can’t imagine how much work has gone into this, but it’s certainly paid off.”
