Brunswick CRC hits the runway with the Work It fashion show and jobs expo
Models dressed in their finest op-shop business garb took to the runway last Wednesday, strutting their stuff for the “Work it” fashion show.
The Burekup town hall was the stage for Brunswick Community Resource Centre’s first ever fashion show and job expo.
Models with outfits sourced from the CRC’s own Op Shop made their way down the runway to show the community looking good and feeling confident doesn’t have to break the bank.
The event was put on by the CRC’s regional trainee Chelsey North who, knowing full well how stressful picking out the best outfit for a job interview can be, wanted to show the community it doesn’t have to be so hard.
“I remember going for my very first job interview, absolutely petrified,” she said.
“I had no Idea what to wear at all, I didn’t know where to look and there’s only so much you can google.”
“One of the things we noticed in our community was some people had low self-esteem in the clothes they had, didn’t have the resources or weren’t sure about what to do when walking into an interview.
“So, we thought we would create an event that targets that, which became our fashion show.”
Ms North said she wanted to create outfits tailored towards specific industries to show how many different outfits can be sourced without spending a fortune.
Also at the show were representatives from Forrest Personnel, the Jobs and Skills Centre and RSM tax services offering people the support they need to secure a future career.
Ms North said this was the first event she had put on herself and it was amazing to see everyone’s reaction to her outfits.
“This is something I have wanted to do for a few years now,” she said.
“It is something I have felt strongly passionate about bringing to life.
“I’m so proud of myself, I’m so proud of the models and proud of the team, it’s just been great.”
