Leschenault Squash Club hosted its inaugural squash tournament at the weekend where 42 players from seven clubs competed for the winning trophy.

Players from Leschenault, Bunbury, Marmion, Mandurah, Busselton, Katanning and Belmont squash clubs attended the the two-day tournament which was held at the Leschenault Leisure Centre.

The teams consisted of three players across divisions A, B and C grades.

Each team competed in three matches on Saturday and the top two teams in each division headed to the finals on Sunday.

Leschenault Squash Club president Brad Grinter was pleased with how smoothly the club’s first tournament ran.

“This is Leschenault’s first tournament ever since being established in 1986,” Mr Grinter said.

“A bit of direction for squash is trying to get more clubs and people involved, and by hosting this event we’re able to do that.

“The event is a team event, so the clubs involved were all quite excited to take part as they rarely get to put a team together.

“It’s been great to see the Leschenault committee and members step up and help put this event together.”

Bunbury-Leschenault won the A and C grade divisions for the day, and Mirrabooka won the B grade.

Bunbury-Leschenault will now attend the Country Teams Squash Championships in late September.

The team will compete against 250 country squash players to defend the A Grade title which they won last year after a 19-year draught.
