Harvey Hospital has received a welcome boost of $600,000 for important maintenance works at the facility.

The funding is part of an $81 million Statewide health facility maintenance package, with $37 million going to regional facilities over the next three years.

South West hospitals, health clinics, aged care sites and regional health staff accommodation will benefit from $7.34 million of this.

The funding will go towards maintenance works at 89 WA health facilities to improve conditions for patients and staff.

Harvey shire president Tania Jackson said the hospital was in an important location for ambulance crews.

“I welcome the funding as our hospital provides an important service in our community,” she said. “With both the Forrest and South Western highways traversing the Shire of Harvey this is a significant facility for emergency responders.”

Premier Mark McGowan announced the funding with Health Minister Roger Cook, saying it would also provide job opportunities for maintenance trades such as electricians, painters, plumbers and builders.

Mr Cook said the funding showed the State Government was committed to improving health campuses.

“This additional money will provide ageing campuses with much-needed funding for high priority maintenance works which will ensure that patients have an enhanced experience at our public hospitals,” Mr Cook said.

South West MLC Adele Farina welcomed the funding.

“This funding will also help to support our nurses and doctors in delivering the best health outcomes for patients and boost the South West economy with the required maintenance works delivering local jobs,” she said.

Collie Hospital was allocated $4,035,000 for upgrades and maintenance to the facility.

The funding is part of the $340 million of State Government spending in health infrastructure in 2019-20.
