Organisers of the Australind Lions Club Australia Day breakfast said the event was the biggest event they had put on yet.

“It’s the biggest we’ve ever seen,” organiser Ron Knapp said.

“And we thought we were going to have a small crowd.”

Volunteers from the Australind Lions, St Nicolas’s Church, the SES, and the Leschenault Volunteer Bush Fire Brigade cooked up a storm on the barbecues.

“We had a really good crew, and they make some really fantastic food,” Mr Knapp said.

Entertainment was provided by local band WAD, with singer Joanne Foster also singing the National Anthem.

The Welcome to Country was done by Aboriginal elder Dennis Jetta and the Australind Scouts performed the flag-raising ceremony.

Thirteen people became Australian citizens at the event, hailing from homelands such as Ireland and Wales to Singapore, Serbia and the Netherlands.
