Red Cross volunteers from across the region met in fellowship on May 7 at Brunswick for the annual South West Regional Rally.

Branches from Brunswick, Harvey, Dardanup, Naturaliste and Busselton gathered at the showgrounds to discuss changes in the organisation and to catch up.

South West regional president Carmel Sanderson said the rally was a chance for fellowship between clubs as well as discussing the direction of the organisation.

“It’s just fellowship and learning what we’re all doing,” she said.

Harvey shire president Tania Jackson was on hand to officially open the rally.

Harvey shire councillor Anita Shortland was a guest speaker, telling the rally about the South West Women’s Refuge’s work, of which she is chief executive officer.

“She gave us a very interesting talk on how they operate there,” Ms Sanderson said.

A total of 12 members were presented service awards and medals for years of dedication.

Brunswick members awarded were Angela Mosca the First Bar for 20 years, and Dorothy Cox and Judith Reeve both received the WA Service Award for 25 to 49 years.

Harvey member Jean Honey was awarded the Laurel Wreath for 50 years service.

Naturaliste member Linda Jenkins was awarded the Distinguished Service Award and Citation and the long service medal for 10 years.

Busselton member Margaret McKay received the First Bar for 20 years.

Dardanup members Gwen Wells and Veronica Carwardine were awarded the Laurel Wreath for 50 years and long service medal for 10 years respectively.
