The Harvey Basketball Association has held its final round for 2022, with one team nearly causing an upset against the ladder leader.

Round nine of this summer’s season was played on Tuesday at the Harvey Recreation and Cultural Centre, in the final tests for all teams before the silly season-enforced break.

There was a major shock in the women’s competition, with the LBH team nearly causing an upset against the undefeated Bulls.

The clash ended in a 30-30 draw, the first time the top-of-the-ladder side has not won a match this season.

Jamielee Muir put in a strong performance to get her team biting at the Bulls’ heels, scoring 13 points.

Julie Chapman helped carry the ladder leaders in the contest by scoring 19 points for her team.

The match between the Mettlers and the Fillies was not as close, with the latter going down in a final result of 41-25.

Jennifer Hayes (10 points) and Clarin Cane (10 points) were the best players for the winning side, while Ryley Willmott (eight points) and Alexia Cicolari (eight points) performed well for the defeated team.

In the senior men’s competition, the second-placed Cowboys ended 2022 with a 61-51 win against the Bulls.

Jake Chapman was the player of the match and the round, scoring 36 points.

The undefeated Blazers kept their spot at the top of the ladder with a 38-23 victory against the Jumars.

Frank Pergoliti (13 points), Anthony Zappia (12 points) and Callum Heap (10 points) all scored in double digits for the current champions of the competition.

The final game of the year between Suns and the Mavericks was not a close affair, with the former getting over the line 46-27.

The Suns’ Jordan Italiano scored 12 points to be the most valuable player for the team.

However, it was the Mavericks’ Jaxon Cuxson (14 points) who was the highest scorer of the game.

Teams will return to the court on January 10, with the Cowboys and the women’s Bulls getting an additional week of rest due to their byes.
