Harvey Senior High School’s class of 2024 gathered with teachers, families and friends to celebrate their official graduation after more than a decade of schooling.
The students took to the stage in the Harvey Recreation and Cultural Centre on October 31 to collect their certificates and ponder their future as the school celebrated the cohort.
Principal David Gault said the occasion had him reflecting on his own high school graduation in 1984 at Geraldton High School having only returned from his 40-year reunion two weeks prior.
“When I was driving home from Geraldton, I was feeling a little flat, reflecting on what has occurred for me since leaving school,” he said.
“Even with all those memories, it is the friendships and shared experiences form school that remain some of the most vivid.

“That sense of community, of having friends by your side, it’s a gift that life doesn’t always replicate even as you create new friendships along the way.”
He told the graduating to look around the room, and remember the faces of the friends they have met along their schooling journey.
“When you move on from here, keep those connections strong,” he said.
“Because when you are standing at your 40th reunion, it will be nice to have people by your side that have known you through it all.”
At the ceremony 25 awards were presented, and former student Zoe Blechynden gave a speech about her time at the school.
School captains Jorja Plant and Ty Guretti spoke to congratulate their fellow students for making it to the end of their high school journey.
Jorja Plant was also awarded the highest number of accolades, going home with five awards for human biology, maths essentials, English, photography and the ADF Future Innovators Award.
