The Shire of Harvey’s after-school care program has been saved — until the end of this school year, at least.

After it was announced last month the service would be canned from September 6 amid a lack of staff, the response from the community has seen it stay put.

The closure would have forced about 15 families to find a new solution for their children’s care, with the service originally not expecting to return until the start of the 2025 school year.

However, thanks to a major push from the Harvey community, a shire spokesperson confirmed a solution had been found for the remained of the year.

“Thanks to an extensive expression of interest process, the shire has identified a staffing solution in collaboration with the community and its shire team at the Leschenault Leisure Centre,” the spokesperson said.

“The services are continuing uninterrupted to the end of the 2024 school year.”

Due to the change in staff, holiday programs are unable to be run this year, but are expected to return after term 1, 2025.
