It was a night of high-stakes action at the Waroona Recreation and Aquatic Centre as teams tried to keep their grand final hopes alive.

The two preliminary finals for the Waroona Amateur Basketball Association seniors were played on Wednesday night, with highly contrasting results for the men’s and women’s games.

In the women’s preliminary final, it was a close match between the Phoenix and Kings.

The nailbiter came down to only one point, with the Kings getting across the line 25-24.

It was an opposite result in the men’s preliminary final, with one of the sides ending their season in a thrashing.

From the outset, the Kings had the upper hand and went into half-time with a comfortable 17 point lead against Magic.

It only got worse from there, with the Kings drawing up a 38-point lead by the end of the game to cruise into the grand final with a 55-17 result.

After finishing the season as minor premiers, it appears Magic’s lack of players during the finals series proved too much to overcome.

Keelan Hinchcliffe was the best-performing player of the match, scoring 17 points.

Cyallyutt Kearing was the defeated side’s best player, scoring seven points.

With the grand final teams locked in, spectators can expect some thrilling competition on Wednesday night.

The women’s match between the Kings and minor premiers the Cruisers will start at 7.30pm, while the men’s match between the Kings and Warriors will start at 8.30pm.
