Power pole fire in Benger

A power pole fire was reported on South Western Highway in Benger this morning.

Harvey Hills Fire Brigade attended the fire just before 6am along with Western Power.

Harvey Hills Fire Brigade captain Doug Buist said pole top fires were common after hot weather and then a bit of rain.

“The dust builds up on the insulators of the poles and the tracks of dirt can allow electricity to spark a fire,” Mr Buist said.

Mr Buist said Western Power would replace the pole by the end of today.
