The Shire of Harvey hosted South West’s top brass last week for a look into the region’s biggest projects and developments.

Representatives from the cities of Bunbruy and Busselton and the shires of Collie, Capel, Manjumup, Bridgetown-Greenbushes, Donnybrook, Nannup and Dardanup met on Friday for the Western Australian Local Government Association’s South West Country Zone meeting.

The ensemble looked at expanding the Department of Water and Environmental Regulation’s Community Water Supplies Partnership Program.

An additional $1.5 million has been allocated to the program allowing other Local Government Authorities in the South West and Great Southern previously ineligible to apply to the program.

The gathered also discussed Designated Area Migration Agreements, TELCO Communication Coverage and South West Aboriginal Medical Services.

The meeting also noted the WALGA Honours Awards recipients — announced on August 2 — with Manjimup’s Paul Dominic Omodei, Augusta-Margret Rivers Cr Ian Earl and Busselton’s Paul Carter all receiving the accolade.

Larger ongoing matters relevant to the entire South West were also discussed under recommendations from WALGA.

That included conducting independent local government election audits, endorsing a new Energy Transition Engagement, endorsing a new Renewable Energy Facilities Advocacy Position and more.

The next WALGA meeting will be held in Manjimup on November 22
