A knitted echidna, colourful paintings and hand stitched cubes expressing why residents love Waroona are now on display in the Waroona Town Hall.

The Ebb+Flow exhibition has been touring around the regions for the past year, now landing in Waroona where it will stay until October.

The work on display comes from a range of regional artists, all working together as part of the Midland Project, to create artwork representing the community.

One artist from each region travelled to create the exhibition, with Peel’s own artist Deirdre Robb taking part.

Now on display in Waroona, Ms Robb said she was immensely grateful to have been involved.

“It was terrific going up there, being immersed in that experience and meeting so many people,” she said.

She has also been working on a project to explore the theme of “I love this place” with the local community, stitching what makes Waroona special to the community into an old tablecloth.

Waroona shire president Mike Walmsley said it was fantastic to have the exhibition in town.

“It’s colourful, and does a great job of showing off creativity all while capturing the spirit of the community,” he said.

“When you ask someone what community means, you’ll always get a different opinion of what it is, and putting it through art is a great way to have it captured.”

General manager of Regional Arts WA Catherine Driver said the team was proud to partner with the North Midlands project to extend the exhibition to the regions.

“These works are created by professional artists working with community, and this tour is giving it back to the communities that helped create them,” she said.

“It’s the community expressing their sense of place and who they are working with these artist to help bring these ideas to fruition.”
