Wallam Watch: Harvey’s Donnell Wallam leads Queensland Firebirds to first win for 2023 season in thriller

A 51-goal haul from Harvey’s Donnell Wallam has helped the Queensland Firebirds to their first win of the season, defeating the Giants in a thriller. Wallam was a stand-out in the Firebirds’ 70-66 victory during round six of the 2023 Super Netball season at Nissan Arena on Sunday. The Firebirds burst out of the gates from the first centre pass, with Wallam making a number of goals to give the Firebirds the early lead. By quarter time, Wallam maintained a 100 per cent shooting record. Although the Giants managed to crawl their way back during the second quarter, the Firebirds remained composed to hold on to their lead throughout the second half. During the last five minutes of the match, Wallam gained a crucial intercept on the transverse line, finishing with a trademark lay-up to shift momentum back to the Firebirds. Wallam also finished the match with a Supershot with just 20 seconds to go, becoming the hero of the match to secure the Firebirds their first win for 2023. Wallam ultimately finished with 51 goals made from 53 attempts, four Supershots, two goal assists, a rebound, two feeds and an intercept.
