A Peel shire is hosting an event to help locals get “bushfire ready” ahead of expected scorching weather to hit by the end of the year.

The Shire of Waroona’s Lake Clifton Volunteer Bush Fire Brigade and the Department of Fire and Emergency Services will join forces to deliver the Bushfire Preparedness Event on October 6.

The event will be held at the Lake Clifton Herron Community Hall, with Lake Clifton residents living on rural properties encouraged to attend, though the event is open to all.

A shire spokesperson said the course would help landowners better prepare their own properties for the bushfire season.

It is set to teach how to reduce fuel loads, maintain an asset protection zone around homes and how to arm oneself with more knowledge about defending a property.

The spokesperson said they expected similar events would be run in the future, though additional dates have not been set.

“The shire’s Bushfire Prevention Information pamphlet contains a lot of information to assist landowners in preparing their properties for bushfire,” they said.

“Shire landowners can also contact their local brigade for advice or the shire’s community safety team.”

The Lake Clifton event has limited spots. It is scheduled for October 6 from 10am to 12.30pm, with priority to Lake Clifton residents.
