The centre of activity for Waroona’s young population has reopened after a much-needed renovation was completed.

For 20 years, the Waroona Community Resource Centre has been running youth programs out of the Waroona Youth Centre.

But there had been no improvements to the centre over that time, until this month.

After being closed since late June, the Waroona Youth Centre reopened earlier this month with plenty of activities being offered.

Waroona CRC manager Stuart Macdonald described the August 18 reopening was “fantastic”, with record attendances being noted.

With the Waroona Community Men’s Shed also using the facility, Mr Macdonald said they were tapped to conduct some of the work.

“They painted the entire interior of the centre, also built new cupboards to store equipment,” he said.

“The old lino flooring which was all worn and ripped was lifted and again the men’s shed polished the concrete floors.”

Local trade professionals were used to complete the remainder of the work, which included the installation of air0conditioning and heating for the first time.

Mr Macdonald said new security doors and interior furnishings were also now in place.

“The benefits are, we now once again have a building fit for purpose,” he said.

“We have a clean, safe environment where we can deliver appropriate programs for our Big and Little Youthie Programs.”

The renovations were supported by a grant from the Alcoa Waroona Sustainability Fund, with the company and the Shire of Waroona thanked for their support of the project.
