Yarloop Country Women’s Association and Australia Post fund first supper dance at refurbished Yarloop Hall

Toe tapping and hip swinging are set to christen a recently refurbished hall as Yarloop’s Country Women’s Association is set to host its 2022 supper dance. Since its destruction during the town’s 2016 bushfires, the Yarloop Hall has yet to host a supper dance with this year’s being the first Swing and Sway dance event held in Yarloop. Dance organiser Ron Sackville said the hall had a long history of Saturday night dancing and would host events from dances to film screenings every night of the week. “The sprung floor is designed for dancing and the original wide Jarrah plank design is the same as the old hall,” he said. An ode to the hall’s history, Mr Sackville is hoping for a major turnout with the dance becoming a “big celebratory re-opening of the Hall”. “It will attract people from all over and we’ve arranged with the Shire (of Harvey) to be able to use the oval so if people come in their caravans or camper vans they can stay the night,” he said. A smorgasbord of raffles, door prizes, drinks and food are set to keep attendees entertained all night as well as an array of dance styles and music from rock and roll to jazz swing. Jointly funded by the Yarloop Country Women’s Association and the Australia Post 2021 People of Post grant, the dance will take place on January 29 at 7.30pm until late.
