Olympians made a big opening statement on Monday night in a 59-14 victory against CBC 4 to open the Kalgoorlie-Boulder Basketball Association’s men’s division three season.

It was easily the biggest winning margin among the four games played in the division, with Spartans, Olympians 2 and CBC 2 also notching first-up wins.

In the corresponding women’s grade, Spartans Green held off Spartans White by a point, 34-33.

Olympians 1 and CBC 1 also recorded victories to open the season, against CBC 2 and Olympians 2, respectively.

Matches at the stadium are played five days a week, across 21 divisions.

Round one in the men’s first division will be completed on Friday night when Olympians oppose CBC at 6.15pm after reigning premiers Saints and Franchise opened proceedings on Thursday night.

The women’s first division has been reduced to three teams, with Olympians opposed to Saints on Friday at 7.30pm.

CBC have a bye.

Olympians are the defending premiers who are this season chasing a flag hat-trick and a 36th championship overall.

They might already have three flags in as many seasons against their name, but the 2021-22 finals were cancelled because of COVID-19 when the squad was undefeated.
