Bidding begins to lead the pack at toy run on custom Harley-Davidson trike

Goldfielders can bid to be the leader of the pack at this year’s Christmas toy run as passengers on an orange custom Harley-Davidson trike. Thunderstruck Goldfields owner Greg Ocinski is auctioning off his two passenger seats to lead the dozens of motorcycles and cars expected to ride in Saturday’s annual toy run in support of the Salvation Army. Participants will parade across town with toys strapped to their rides to help collect donations for the Salvos Christmas Appeal. Bidding was launched on the business’ Facebook page, and was already sitting at more than $200 on Wednesday, with hopes it will continue to climb until it closes at 6pm on Friday. Mates 4 Mates Goldfields-Esperance president Sean Fitzgerald said the toy run was often led by local postie bikes, but that was not possible this year because of petrol postie bikes no longer being used. He said the auction was a great way to raise extra money for the Salvos’ appeal, and would hopefully attract more interest to participate in the toy run. “I reckon the trike will be the awesomest ride in the Goldfields, what an epic way to lead the toy run,” he said. “It’s a great way to help spread the word about the event and also help more kids out at Christmas. “We just hope everyone will dust off their bikes and cars, charge up their batteries, and come along to join in the fun.” Mr Fitzgerald said he hoped to see at least 200 motorcycles take part in this year’s ride, but welcomed cars and horse and carts to take part as well. The ride will depart Loopline Park on Saturday about 9.30am, with a cooked breakfast and doughnuts being provided before and after in the park.
