Preston Beach included in State Government community garden grants, nearly $100,000 to share across WA

Preston Beach community members will soon have green thumbs after the State Government announced nearly $100,000 in grants for community gardens across WA. Aiming to “bring community garden projects to life”, the State Government’s Community Gardens Grants Program is in support of the establishment and upgrading of community gardens. Grants of up to $10,000 were provided to not-for-profit community organisations, local government authorities and community groups in the Perth, Peel, Whetbelt and South West. The grant means a total of $7017 to spend on plants, seedlings and fertiliser as well as project planning, design and training services for Preston Beach’s Community Garden Inc. Community Services Minister Simone McGurk said community gardening was a great way to bring people together at a local level. “The State Government grants will fund projects that allow organisations to take the first steps to establish a community garden or help existing gardens to flourish,” she said. “Community gardens are an opportunity for people to come together by enabling them to make connections across generations and cultural backgrounds and develop new skills.” South West and Peel communities including, Lakelands, Greenbushes and Augusta also received significant grant funding for their community garden projects.
