A South West football club was one of five sporting teams from across Australia to score equipment bounty as part of the inaugural Bunnings Home Ground Advantage initiative.

The Harvey Bulls Football Club will receive $50,000 worth of Bunnings products, being one of five football teams countrywide to win the inaugural Bunnings Home Ground Advantage initiative.

The initiative received more than 400 applications from across the nation, all looking for help to meet demands of local facilities and celebrate what makes community football special across Australia.

The initiative aims to give clubs a “home ground advantage” by helping clubs spruce up their club rooms and local grounds.

The Bulls aim to use the grant to improve the more than a decade old Arthur Marshall Grandstand.

Harvey Bulls Football Club board member Michael Zappia said their successful application was a “dream come true”.

“To be one of the five lucky clubs to be successful in Bunnings’ Home Ground Advantage initiative is a dream come true,” he said.

“The $50,000 will go largely towards celebrating and improving our iconic grandstand which has stood the test of time for over 100 years.

“I cannot thank Bunnings enough for selecting us as part of the program and to deepen the existing connection that we have with them. It is a huge amount of money for our club and the other four clubs across Australia, who also share this great news.”

Bunnings chief operating officer Ryan Baker said they were thrilled to reveal the successful recipients.

“Our store teams provide ongoing support to local footy clubs through fundraising sausage sizzles and hands-on support, and the Home Ground Advantage initiative is another way we can lend a hand to help local clubs improve their facilities that will benefit the wider community,” he said.

“To receive over 400 applications nationwide is truly amazing and shows how crucial community football is across Australia, we can’t thank the clubs enough for their interest and we are grateful for each and every application that was submitted.”
