A 10m-tall mythical puppet creature covered in illuminated crystal shards, known as The Guardian, and five larger-than-life pink flamingos strutting their stuff, are two of the highlights at City of Kwinana’s OMG! Festival 2024.

Having undergone an evolution from its once fringe roots, this year’s OMG! Festival has exploded into a multi-day, multi-venue community celebration of immersive light, art and cultural experiences.

The magical transformation of Kwinana’s streets and open spaces begins with two-night event Get in the Grove, from 6-9pm, November 8 and 9, taking place at The Grove, between the City of Kwinana administration building and Koorliny Arts Centre.

Festooned lighting, food trucks, a pop-up bar, acrobatic performers, stilt walkers and live entertainment can be enjoyed across both evenings as The Guardian and flamingos roam the festival space.

OMG! Festival frivolity continues the following weekend with Wellard Street Festival, a vibrant family friendly street party on The Strand, celebrating the 10-year anniversary of Wellard Square, from 6-9pm on November 16.

Street party entertainment will include performances from Ricochet Circus, a circus game show, silent disco, face painting and LED hula hoop workshop, accompanied by market stalls, pop-up bar and food trucks.

“With the OMG! Festival expanding, it’s a perfect opportunity for the community to come together, engage with exciting performances, and celebrate local culture,” City of Kwinana Mayor Peter Feasey said.

“The festival’s new format promises captivating light-themed entertainment for all ages, transforming Kwinana’s streets and open spaces into hubs of creativity and fun.”
