With a wind whipping across the sea and the sun beating down, paddlers took to the open water on Saturday for the City of Bunbury Surf Life Saving Club’s Downwind Paddle Training time trial.

Starting from Stratham Beach at 3pm, 30 competitors set out for the 15km stretch up the coast to the club’s headquarters.

First across the line was James Duncan with a time of 1 hour 3 minutes and 8 seconds.

Tara Smith was the first female paddler to finish.
