A workshop hits Waroona this month aiming to give residents the tools to wipe out weeds in the shire
Waroona’s war on weeds is being helped by an upcoming workshop to arm the community with the tools to identify and eradicate pest plants.
The Peel Harvey Biosecurity Group are running their Weed ID and Advice Workshop on April 30 from 10am to 3pm at the Waroona Golf Club.
Community members, land managers, and government officials are welcome to attend for the opportunity to learn more about the weeds that have sneaked their way into our urban spaces, rural paddocks, and surrounding bushland.
People are welcome to bring in their own weed samples for identification by experts Greg Keighery and Andrew Mitchell. Other workshops have seen more than 150 unique plants brought in to be checked by the experts.
Attendees will also receive a copy of Southern Weeds and Their Control — a guide covering physical and chemical control methods for many of the weeds found around the Peel-Harvey region.
At present the Peel Harvey Biosecurity Group has six weeds declared a high priority, with other ongoing programs and equipment available for their eradication by landowners, such as a weed wiper specifically designed for cape tulips.
The workshop is free, but registration is required by visiting www.PHBG.org, emailing field@phbg.org or calling 0409 079 156.
