All roads lead to Waroona with the All Australian Car Day hitting town
Waroona was packed with V8s, certified classics and everything in between atthe weekend as the All Australian Car Day drove into the town.
The Waroona Showgrounds became the country’s most extravagant parking spot on Sunday, with more than 400 cars, trucks, motorcycles and speedsters packed into the oval.
Organised by Just Cruizin Street Machiners for the 11th year, this event was the biggest turnout in the show’s history.
Street Machiners president Naomi Purcell said she was thrilled by the phenomenal turnout and perfect weather.
“We have had days where we have had bad weather and more ducks than cars have turned up,” she said.
“But this is a good day, all the stars have aligned today. It has been a beautiful event.”
The show is one of the biggest car shows in the South West, with visitors from across the region coming to the town.
Groups like the WA Classic Speedway Association proudly displayed their speedsters.
Owner of the sidecar speedster The Thing, Brian Cox, found the whole event awesome and was proud to show off the wheels he has been restoring over the years.
Vehicles from the Variety Bash dazzled with their creative designs, including Mrs Purcell’s own Thomas the Tank Engine car.
Others brought a sense of class to the event with restored classics filling the showground.
Top vintage award winner John Muhleisen has had his car ready for display since 2011.
He bought his car in 2003 when it was nothing but a rusted chassis, before spending eight years restoring it into the award-winning beauty it is today.
“I first came to Waroona with it in 2011 for an all British day,” Mr Muhleisen said.
Having the body rebuilt in Mandurah and adding the finest upholstery from Perth, Mr Muhleisen’s car was a standout among the competition.
Others were amazed with the attention their vehicles were receiving, such as Jandakot resident Pat Bolt.
She was thrilled when her cosy VW camper was selected as a finalist in one of the categories.
“When I bought it, it was a great paint job and that’s about it,” Ms Bolt said.
Having worked on the interior for the past three years, she is excited to take her runner-up vehicle out on the road for a camping trip.
But none was as surprised as Australind resident Sean Commins, who was blown away to win this year’s top prize.
He said he has had his Holden Torana on the road for only six months and this is the first show he has attended.
He was blown away to find out he had won such a prestigious award.
