A South West shire has unveiled plans for major upgrades to community precincts showing off new facilities for the community to enjoy.

The Shire of Dardanup has unveiled its plans to upgrade the community precincts in Burekep and Dardanup giving both towns new skate parks, pump tracks, playgrounds and more.

Proposed upgrades to the Burekup community and sporting precinct include a new roundabout on Gardiner Street leading to a new carpark adjoining a new skate park, pump track and playground.

The Burekup plans — estimated to total more than $9 million — will add new changerooms, function facilities and a nature play area to the heart of the community.

Shire president Tyrrell Gardiner said the new plan would serve as a strategic roadmap for the future.

“Over the past few years, we have worked closely with residents to identify their priorities, particularly focusing on enhancing community amenities,” he said.

“With the Burekup Cricket Club having more than 10 teams, including juniors and women’s teams featured in the local competition, there are a lot of youth in the community and surrounding areas that will benefit from the precinct upgrades.

“The Burekup concept plan includes new changerooms and a functions facility in addition to the Burekup District County Club.”

Central Dardanup is also set to see new development with a $6 million plan adding a new skate park, pump track and playground to the community’s cultural centre.

Cr Gardiner said the new plan also included major upgrades to the town hall and its related buildings

“Refurbishing the Dardanup Hall will not only bring this community facility up to standard, but allow the hall to be the shire’s primary evacuation centre,” he said.

Cr Gardiner thanked community members and working groups who contributed their insights for the two concept plans.

“This feedback is instrumental in ensuring that these proposed upgrades align effectively with the evolving needs and aspirations of our community,” he said.

“The concept plans not only streamline strategic project planning but also aim to bolster advocacy efforts for securing necessary funding to bring these visions to fruition.”
