Properties along Sheridan Place, Drake Road, Coronation Road and Rakali drive have all been redefined as residential under the new ruling.

The Alinta Wagerup Peaking Power Station was the only industrial area to be evaluated by council, after it found the building operating in the industrial hub was zoned as general farming.

Shire documents said it was “evident that due to the nature of the use of this land, that the land is of a non-rural nature and should be rated as such.”.

The power station is the site of the energy company’s new 100MW/200MWh battery storage system, set to start construction later this year.

Once compete, the battery station will provide significant energy to the Alcoa Wagerup refinery.

Council documents said it was important the Shire of Waroona continued to ensure ratings were consistent across all property owners to realise rating equality.
