Harvey’s own Wokalup Tavern and its adjoining brewery, Brugan, have managed to brew up success, being recognised as finalists for two of this year’s gold plate awards.

Team members of the locally loved tavern and brewery were shocked to score recognition at the finalists gathering last Monday, taking a swing at winning the awards for the best restaurant within a tavern or pub and the best brewery.

Assistant venue manager Charlotte Collins said the team was excited to learn they had made it to the finals, finding themselves competing against some of the State’s most prestigious venues.

She said the Brugan brewery was one of three selected to compete for the title, going up against Swan Valley’s Bailey Brewing Co. and Mandurah’s Boundary Island Brewery and one of seven for the restaurant category.

“We have come into categories where we are up against some of the most prestigious restaurants and breweries in the State,” she said.

“It’s all pretty exciting.”

Ms Collins said the whole team was on edge, eager to impress in the next few months, and hopeful they would be able to secure victory.

“At the moment, we have got to just keep doing what we are doing,” she said.

“If we can get this far, hopefully we can go even further.”

While she knew it could sound cliche, the team at the tavern and brewery is, to her, like family.

“As soon as you walk in the door, it doesn’t matter if it’s the tavern side or brewery, you’ll always be treated the same when you come in here,” Ms Collins said.

“I hope that is what is reflected in this award.”
