Hotel Sorrento unveils its crown jewel
There’s a reason the French Riviera inspires so many seaside dreams — it’s the kind of glamour that doesn’t try too hard, blending sun-kissed afternoons with late-night revelry.
And now, the Mornington Peninsula gets its own slice of that, with an all-new rooftop bar and restaurant opening on December 13 at Hotel Sorrento.
Perched above the historic hotel with sweeping views of Port Phillip Bay, The Rooftop blends old and new with thoughtful design that’s perfect for a sunset spritz.
Designed by Six Degrees Architects and Jack Merlo Landscape Architecture, the space draws inspiration from the vibrant rooftop culture of Saint-Tropez and the Cote d’Azur, where eating, drinking and socialising take centre stage.
The menu, crafted by executive chef Beth Candy, highlights the best of Mornington Peninsula produce. Think small plates like spiced kingfish crudo and lobster brioche rolls complemented by shareable options like fresh pizzas and grilled zucchini with mint yoghurt.
Hotel Sorrento director Myles Pitt says The Rooftop was crafted to fill a gap on the peninsula, offering locals and visitors a space where “some of the best views” meet a curated wine list, refreshing cocktails and a soundtrack of local DJs.
“We’re proud to introduce guests to our Rooftop, a unique open-air, versatile space that has been designed for year-round comfort, allowing guests to take in some of the best views the peninsula has to offer,” he says.
“We’re excited to be bringing it to Sorrento locals and visitors alike.”
Open daily from noon until late, The Rooftop accommodates up to 320 guests with seating options to suit every occasion, with high-top tables for a quick drink, plush lounges for lingering conversations and cosy booths for larger group bookings.
Along with The Rooftop, the ever-popular Salt bar has also been refreshed, following the debut of Hotel Sorrento’s luxury suites, spa and pool in 2023.
