The great Kimberley Loop
This great, iconic drive lap, in gravel and bitumen, loops through the Kimberley, crowning our State.
It is surely one of the world’s best round trips — 700km of the Gibb River Road, between Derby in the west, and the east end, at its junction with Great Northern Highway between Kununurra and Wyndham.
The Gibb River Road is now known as much for good accommodation as it is for the memorable vistas and gorges along its length.
We spend time in both before continuing the loop — down through Warmun and Halls Creek and Fitzroy Crossing (instead of going back to Derby, we venture on to Broome).
This is a trip that can be tackled by anyone — from fly-in holidaymakers hiring a four-wheel-drive vehicle and accommodation, to families mixing up camping with comfort, to grey nomads with a camper trailer. Follow the journey in words and pictures in this special guide to a great drive.
