Perth will be without their first-choice point guard until at least February, with Tai Webster set for a lengthy stint on the sidelines with a hamstring issue.

It means the Wildcats face a stern test this weekend without two of their key rotation pieces, with import Kristian Doolittle (groin) remaining unavailable for the road clash against table-toppers Illawarra on Sunday.

Webster has already missed five games this season, but will now be out of action for at least six weeks “following additional medical imaging and assessment” on his hamstring, according to the club.

“Updates on his recovery and a potential return date will be provided as more information becomes available,” the club said in a statement.

The Wildcats play nine matches through the remainder of December and January, including the next five away from home with RAC Arena unavailable due to the United Cup tournament.

The team’s last game of the regular season is on February 7.

Perth have struggled for regular availability from their key players this season, with Doolittle set to miss his third game this weekend off the back of previous absences from Bryce Cotton (five games missed), Keanu Pinder (four games) and Dylan Windler (three games).

Replacement player Todd Withers - currently in the line-up to cover for Doolittle - said the loss of Webster was a big blow.

“Our hearts go out to him. We know he’s going to do everything he can to get himself back to where he needs to be,” Withers said.

“We’ve got to try to take care of business while he’s out.

“He’s a super-energy guy, and he’s another vet on the team, so he helps lead the way for some of the young guys as well.”
