West Coast star Harley Reid has entered concussion protocols after an incident at pre-season training this week.

The former No.1 pick returned with the Eagles’ first-to-fourth year players on Monday ahead of his first season under new coach Andrew McQualter.

But the prized midfielder will now be sidelined from contact training after he copped a head knock on Wednesday, with the 19-year-old entering concussion protocols.

“Harley received a minor head knock during training and we took precautionary measures,” GM of footy Gavin Bell said.

“I’ve spoken to him today and so has the club doctor. He is doing well, but as he has entered the AFL concussion protocols he will be in non-contact training when he resumes next week.”

Reid took the competition by storm last season, meeting lofty expectations placed on him as the first selection in the 2023 draft.

He was named the AFL’s Best First Year Player and won Goal of the Year, playing 20 games in his impressive debut season.

Meanwhile, Fremantle have released a statement after a “freak accident” involving rookie Odin Jones, that saw the 19-year-old undergo spinal surgery.

The West Perth product fractured a vertebrae in his spine after falling awkwardly on Wednesday night.

“This was a freak accident and Odin is now in the care of specialists following surgery this morning. He will now have a couple of weeks in hospital while we await advice on his recovery timeline,” footy boss Joe Brierty said.

“The thoughts of everyone at Fremantle are with Odin and his family at this time.”

The Dockers’ first-to-fourth year players returned for pre-season training on Thursday.
