Great Southern cricketers play key roles in WA Premier Cricket opening two-day matches, final T20 pool games

A host of Great Southern cricketers played leading hands for their respective clubs in the first round of two-day matches in the 2024-25 WA Premier Cricket season on Saturday. Tambellup’s Guy Taylor helped Subiaco-Floreat to an enormous first-innings total against the struggling Gosnells on day one at Sutherlands Park. Taylor scored a patient 81 at the top of the order as many of the Lions batters filled their boots, belting 401 before being bowled out in the final over of the innings. Albany star all-rounder Nathan Crudeli made his Perth first grade debut against Wanneroo at Fletcher Park. The former Railways and Mt Barker gun played for Perth’s second grade and Premier T20 sides last week but was called up to debut for the ladder leaders at the weekend. The right arm quick took 1-30 from his 10 overs to help the Demons roll Wanneroo for just 174 in the 75th over and his side were 1-40 in reply at stumps. He also played in their five-wicket Premier T20 victory against fellow Albany quick Bryce Jackson’s Melville at Tompkins Park on Sunday, taking 2-37 from four overs. Crudeli was on two not out when they passed Melville’s first innings total of 142. Perth will play Midland-Guildford in the quarter final. Jackson, who was left out of WA’s one-day squad against Tasmania last week, was wicketless against bottom-placed Joondalup. Despite not claiming a scalp before dismissing their opponents for 283 in the 84th over, the WA right-arm pacer was extremely economical, leaking just 17 runs from his 10 overs and bowling five maidens. Albany’s Aidan Dallimore (Railways) made a crucial unbeaten 26 for Claremont-Nedlands against University, who boast a stacked batting line-up which includes former English test opener James Bracey and former WA batter Will Bosisto. The Tigers declared at 7-253 at James Oval but were unable to pinch a wicket in the two overs they had at University late in the day. Bracey is a former Southern Smash player of the tournament while Bosisto has recently confirmed he will return to regional WA’s premier T20 tournament at the end of this year. Their teammate Vivian Paver, who hails from Albany, claimed 1-16 and may play a role with the bat in chasing the Tigers’ score this Saturday. Willeton skipper and Narrogin product Iszak Milentis survived a tricky eight overs late in the day at Hillcrest Park against Bayswater-Morley. The Dragons skittled the Bears for 253 in the 80th over meaning the cautious opener had to front a difficult period against his opponents in fading light. However, the WA second XI batter remained at the crease at stumps unbeaten on six. Meanwhile Albany brothers Coen and Zane Marwick endured a difficult day for Country XI in their final two T20 matches at Floreat Park on Saturday. Country XI lost both matches against Rockingham-Mandurah and Subiaco-Floreat to finish their campaign without registering a win. Zane Marwick, who now plays in Geraldton, scored nine against the Mariners before 10 against the Lions in which his innings ended abruptly after a fatal mix-up with his younger brother. Albany and Districts star Coen Marwick struggled with the bat in both innings scoring a total of 19 runs but snared 2-39 from four overs against the Mariners. Broomehill’s English import Max Jordinson top-scored for Country XI colts with 34 not out in their tough six-wicket loss to Subiaco-Floreat at Alderbury Reserve on Sunday.
