A golden opportunity has now opened for non-profit organisations and initiatives in the Waroona Shire to benefit from grant funding.

Applications for the Alcoa Waroona Micro Grants Fund opened on Friday, with community groups able to apply for up to $2000 in financial assistance.

The Shire of Waroona is interested in initiatives likely to have a sustainable and lasting impression on the lives of residents in the area, with projects needing to be aligned with the council’s 2030 Strategic Community Plan.

Shire president Mike Walmsley said the fund was not just about providing a boost to clubs.

“(It) is about giving a boost to ideas, projects and events which have the potential to make our community even better,” he said.

Candidates are asked to discuss their applications with the Shire’s community development team before submitting their request for funding.

Assistance with the application process and budget is also available through the Shire.

Applications close on February 15.
