Harvey Golf Club members Garry Beacham and Tom McClurg manage hole-in-ones within 30 minutes of each other

Many golfers will never record a hole-in-one, while others may achieve the feat once or twice; and then there is Garry Beacham. The 27-year-member of the Harvey Golf Club managed his fourth ace on the 10th hole of his home course on Sunday, October 17. Beacham’s shot landed in front of the green, bounced twice and ran towards the hole. “It sort of did a funny thing at the hole and I thought ‘that’s close’,” he said. “It looked like it was resting up against the pin and then after a few seconds it fell in.” Remarkably, as Beacham was walking up the 13th hole, he heard another roar from the 10th tee. First-year member Tom McClurg, pictured inset, had managed a hole-in-one on the same hole, just 30 minutes later. “There was yelling and screaming going on and I said to the boys I was playing with ‘I think there has just been another one’,” Beacham said. It was McClurg’s first of his career and the 28-year-old said he could not believe it had happened. “I think I threw my club in the air and yelled something and then went around getting high-fives and handshakes from everyone in the area, which was pretty cool,” he said. Beacham said he was lucky to have felt the ecstasy of the achievement once, let alone four times. “It’s quite exciting; there was plenty of high fives after it fell in,” he said. “You’re walking down (to the hole) and it is a bit surreal I guess.” McClurg said he had been playing golf since the age of six and never thought his time would come. “A week before on that same hole, I missed (out on getting a hole-in-one) by an inch and I was devastated,” he said. “I thought, ‘that was it, that was the one that was supposed to go in’.”
