Harvey’s rich history set to go on show

History will be front and centre at this year’s 100th Harvey Show.

Young Street will be closed to make way for the original “walk” from the showgrounds to the Town Hall, where the exhibitions were once displayed before the construction of the Harvey Recreation and Cultural Centre.

Memorabilia, photographs and historical items will be displayed in the hall to demonstrate the history of the show and the Harvey Agricultural Society dating from when the group first changed its name from the Harvey Citrus Society.

Harvey resident Silvana Del Borrello will be displaying her historic fruit and vegetable cart as part of the historic anniversary celebrations.

The cart, built in 1876 and used by the Carbone family until the 1950s, will be one of many items on display on April 27.

Ms Del Borrello bought the cart from an antique shop in Collie about six years ago, and said she receives frequent offers from people wanting to purchase the cart.

Now that her “girl” has been lovingly restored, Ms Del Borrello said she isn’t planning on letting her go any time soon.

“I love antiques,” Ms Del Borrello said.

“And this one is beautiful – she deserves to be on show.”
