VideoThe Australian cricketer made the trip from his brother's wedding in the Hunter Valley.

Only someone like David Warner could orchestrate such an entrance as the former Test opener was airlifted onto the SCG for his sell-out Big Bash return last night.

Having only retired from Test cricket at the SCG less than a week ago Warner was eager to get back into action on Friday flying in from his brother’s wedding in the Hunter region.

Warner touched down on the outfield in what was just his 10th appearance in the Big Bash despite having made his name in the game’s shortest format.

He jovially raised his arms aloft as he mimicked a rock star, before conducting an interview with former Test opener Greg Blewett for TV.

“It was good it was quite cool to see Sydney from up above on a cracking day it was amazing,” he said.

“It was a wonderful ceremony up there to see my brother and his wife Emily ... the reception start at 6-6:30 so I might be able to make it up in time.”

“It was a special moment last week here with the boys, it was a fitting finish and was great to celebrate with the boys.”

While never one to shy away from the spotlight Warner admitted his big entrance added a bit of pressure to make sure he performs well with the bat.

“I might look like a little bit of a goose if I don’t get any runs,” he said.

“But it’s my contribution not just to the BBL but also Australian cricket I want to be out here I want to entertain and I need to help my team win the next three games.”

Friday’s derby between the Thunder and the Sixers was sold-out with the Thunder’s hopes riding on the result of the blockbuster clash.

“It’s amazing the Sydney double is always a great event,” he said.

In stark contrast to his Thunder rival Sixers’ Sean Abbott made a much more low-key entrance rolling up on a hired bike.

“He is a bit Hollywood isn’t he, it is very Davey,” Abbott quipped a day earlier.

“I got the Lime bike in today and I’ll be doing the same tomorrow night. So I’ll be just riding out the gate there as Davey lands.

“But I’m glad they’re making it happen.

“Because I think everyone in the country who is a fan of cricket wants to see David Warner playing in the BBL and I’m really looking forward to coming up against one of the best players in the world...I’m really glad he’s making the trip down to be involved.”
