Community comes together to share the love at Leschenault festival

The community came together at the weekend to share the love at a festival along the Leschenault Estuary foreshore.
The Leschenault Catchment Council’s second Love the Lesch fest was a great success, seeing people from across the region coming together to celebrate the iconic waterway and learn more about its protection.
The festival was attended by a plethora of groups, with the Dolphin Discovery Centre, OzFish Australia, the Peel-Harvey Biosecurity group and more attending, all with displays teaching how best to protect the Leschenault Estuary and surrounding nature.
This year’s event had a major focus on responsible pet ownership with dog owners invited to attend a dog brunch and learn best practice for pet ownership.
Also in attendance was Gardening Australia’s Josh Byrne who did a presentation on nutrient-wise gardening.
LCC biodiversity program manager Katrina Zeehandelaar-Adams said the day was an awesome event with a great turnout.
“Lots of people came along, with their dogs for the dog brunch this morning, and got themselves an egg roll made by the Lions Club and the doggies got some treats,” she said.
“This year, we’re trying to promote living with wildlife and how you can do that by being a responsible pet owner.”
Mrs Zeehandelaar-Adams said following the success of the event, they were already keen for next year’s festival.
“We’ll definitely be back and looking at the sort of things that can keep people coming back whilst still being interesting,” she said.
